Dvd disc not playing on 4.3U Wii

I softmodded my family's wii last week and tried playing a dvd in it and it wasn't detected. The wii was running 4.3U and I went through the soft mod guide. I also done my gfs wii 2 weeks ago and was running 4.3U as well but it was able to play DVDs. Not sure what the difference could be but I'm scratching my head bout this.
